Good news: I am now the owner of a new laptop, Kiki #3. [My gaming laptops have all been named Kiki.] This one is an Asus, with an i7 chip, a 750 gig harddrive, 8 gigs of RAM & an Nvidia geoforce 550 GT graphics card. I've spent since Wednesday doing the Windows updates, have loaded 'City of Heroes' and played a few minutes to see it play fast/pretty/smooth. Kiki 3 is now loaded Steam. She seems quite nice thus far.
Slightly annoying news: that I -wanted- an m14x alienware laptop, even if it cost more - but it was not in stock when I went hunting. The glowing keyboard would have been worth it. As it is, the Asus is comparable and cost less.
A little sucky - but ended up nice: the saleguy-made-of-win who helped me Sunday said the Asus would be there Tuesday. Go there & no. Went there wednesday & also told no. SalesguyMOW was there, saw me and went in the back, found the laptop [as yet uncatalogued] & brought it to me. All told with cost, tax and an added 2 year repair contract, the laptop ended up costing what the initial unit listed as costing. He gave me a discount because I kept coming back and was pleasant/polite when faced with another 'no, it wasn't there'.
