Computer woes
Jul. 16th, 2010 05:21 pmJust venting a little. So the 1-year old tower/desktop computer I help build ['Riff'] booted up today and all the 'white' color is hot pink. Rebooted. Same. Rebooted and did a memory diagnostic [is fine], went into display controls and all is set to defaults, the driver says it's OK, there is no new nvidia issue and my updates are current as of Tuesday. Did all the checks I could think to do, changed displays - no alteration in the pink - went back to original settings. Still hot pink for my whites. Sighed, shut down. [boojum says he'll look at it Sunday, maybe he'll have an idea.]
So then I turn on my main laptop ['Kiki'] and notice the screen starts doing a flicker: normal brightness/dimmer - while the taskbar shows it is powering, then on battery. I know both of Kiki's chargers are OK [she has a spare] - and by wiggling the connection, I can make the flicker stop, so it looks like the power port needs to be replaced/repaired. That looks to be a minimum $125 repair [I called 'Laptop Rescuers', recommended by boojum] - and will need to take Kiki in tomorrow.
