Light - light in the sky!
May. 9th, 2011 12:14 pmAmong various other games, I like Civ 3. I have a copy installed on my varied computers - and would have extra copies on my DS & PSP if I could. So I got a copy from direct2drive for my desktop a while back and the installed game had a few problems involved with the game borders exceeding my screen size. I contacted support, then the game marketers & no luck. Since the most damning problem was an inability to get at the slider for building units/city improvements, this made the game unplayable [except with city governors & I'm way to micro-managing to accept that]. Grumble.
So it sat there, neglected and I played Civ 4 [which worked just fine] until Friday. I'm checking Steam and see Civ 3 for sale from them for $5, so I get a copy to see if the problems were the same. They were BUT I could adjust the window size in properties with it - and while the borders slopped a bit - I could manage the slider. Score! Played a half hour - but then had to do other things.
Advance time to last night, around midnight. I'm just at the 'my head is pounding still from the noise level at the Sharks playoff game we had attended and am about to shut down, when I think, 'lemme check my -other- version of Civ 3. I check and NOW I can adjust the window size for the direct2drive version [it had been greyed out before]. Yay! So I adjust screen size and start a game to see if it was playable.
It was. Cut to gil_liant coming down the stairs and me becoming aware there was light in the sky. Somehow it was now 8:30am. About 8 hours had passed without me noticing the passage of time [or my headache ... or my bladder] - and I wasn't really sleepy. We both had a laugh about the seductive power of Civ.
