Indulging my inner gamer

So I went and bought 'Star Ocean, till the end of time' and 'Lego Star Wars 2' [because I had a few bucks and a good game is worth it]. It helped that both games were reasonably priced. [What -is- this new trend of games going for $50?] Because of a rain check, the 'LSW2' was $25 - and 'star Ocean' was $20. So IMO it counts as money well spent.

After all, both games are going to suck up untold hours, during which I'm not spending cash on anything else. ^_^ Plus 'LSW2' is 2-player! So that has some great possibilities.

Games have been going for $50 or more for as long as I can remember... sometimes slightly less, but from the big producers (i.e. Square Enix, etc) they've always been pricey. Which sucks, because that was one of the things about Square going from Nintendo to Sony... Supposedly disk systems would mean cheaper games.

Really, it's just simple law of supply and demand...aka the "oooooh shiny!" factor of wanting a new product. Almost every new PC or console game I see sells for $49.99 (though I've seen some sell for as much as $69.99), except for expansions that require little additional programming to the original, which usually go to market for $29.99. Then the price will drop about $10 per year until it stabilizes at $20. Of course, by the time that happens, you can usually find used versions for a penny plus shipping on amazon.com.

Used is OK - but I greatly prefer brand-spanking-new copies of a game, in that they seem to have fewer problems

I do prefer Square/Soft/Sony rp games over others - possibly because they give a greater dollop of characterization per game. But I'd like them even more if they cost less. ^_^
