Spent 4 hours yesterday and installed dsl. [Half that time spent with help lines since the install allowed access to the AT&T website, but to no other part of 'teh intrawebs'. Final tech I talked with ran me thru the set up/reg process twice and the 2nd time it 'took'. [shakes head] Amusingly, the 'fast set-up pamphlet' should have warned me: there is a paragraph where it says to write down a 10 digit number ... and they provide 9 boxes in which to do this.
Today I set up our new phone/handset system to theoretically replace the old handset we have. Looks like we may just end up 'handset gifted'. The best place for the base unit was replacing the phone in the bedroom. The other 2 handsets have been added to power outlets, but the old handset still looks to be the best one to have downstairs and hook gil_liant's Mac to.

Date: 2009-01-15 09:26 pm (UTC)Once fully online, I tried to get email - and found my shortcut to Thunderbird had been 'somehow' deleted from my desktop {?} and initial 'Start' menu - replaced with an 'Outlook' option. That was a WTF. But Thunderbird was still in the 'all programs' and selectable. When clicked, it worked just fine and there were no further problems. Whew.
