Installed 'City of Heroes' and spent way more time designing my gal for it than I did starting the tutorial. At 2:30 a.m. I looked up, saw the time and was astonished. As in 'wha? But it was just 10!'
Hi and welcome to the wonderfull world of CoH! ShadowCatt-X and I are on the Justice Server. Her global ID is Necromantika. Mine is Hellbore. Has Gil upgraded his computer (or bought a new one) so he can play yet?
I think I have an idea of what I intend to do. It'll probably happen this week.
So, if we're all going to be playing together, do we want to discuss super-group constituent parts? I know that Melchar has started an Ice Blaster character. You, boojumbunn, and shadowcatt_x have a variety of characters. If I wanted to be part of a more well-rounded group, what character type should I be considering?
Play whatever you want to play, dude. I've got it covered just with alts. From tankers to scrappers to crowd control, I've got an alt for all seasons. So just pick something you like and run with it.
I recommend that a noob start with something simple like a blaster or a scrapper. They're basically point and shoot characters. Tanks--effective aggro management tanks, anyway--require a bit of experience, though they're the most forgiving of the solo-able classes, since it takes a lot to kill one. Controllers require a little experience when you're teaming, and same goes for defenders (except the empathy power set, which is basically point and shoot healing).
[bang, zap!] That's me; wandering around as a blaster and wondering why the heck the starting scenarios take me out into the land of reds and oranges to find a warehouse that has blues, greens and whites in them.
Sure, maybe that's why the little guys are staying -inside-, but having to fight the tough guys just to reach the guys I'm supposed to find/fight for the mission seems unfair. [and then, if dropped, having to trudge BACK into the same area and finding the same guys there again. Gack!
I like the notion of Tanks, which is why my favorite existing character is a Scranker. On the other hand, perhaps I should broaden my horizons? boojumbunn, are you interested in being the main healer most of the time, or should I consider going that route?
On another note: I noticed that last night, melchar was getting really bad lag on 'Justice', and I've heard you comment to that effect before. Is it worth considering going to a different server, or is the upside to staying on Justice, with all the existing investment in characters, alts, and supergroup far outweighing any server issues?
Odd, I've never really had a problem with lag on Justice except during major events, like Rikti incursions or Zombie attacks. Those are designed to stress the server so it makes sense that they would lag.
On the flip side, we could pay to move character to another server or start new characters. I'll mention it to ShadowCatt-X and see what she is interested in doing. Do you have an alternate server you would like to suggest? Right now, Vrghr, SHadowCatt-X, and I are all on Justice.
On another note, your both aware of the Bunnygirl advantage, right? How Bunnygirls get bonusses to defense and attack? That makes them excellent characters to start playing. ;)
The current supergroup has teleporters to all the zones except the rikti war zone. It would take six months or more to get another base built up to that level from scratch. I definitely don't want to move from Justice for my regular gaming.
I suspect that the slowdown might have come from Melchar's end. We already know that the ATT DSL connection isn't the fastest, and her computer isn't the newest. When the lag becomes crippling, you might try logging off and rebooting the computer. Also, they are currently running the spring-fling special event, so there are more people logged on than usual.
Wait until after Spring Fling to decide if Justice is too crowded.
I have a City of Heroes account. I don't play as much as I used to since Tif's computer is down and my PC does not handle City as well. My global is Shiden no Tachi. Please feel free to global friend me.
I am not sure what is wrong. You have my name correct. Maybe I need to be on-line when you add me. We should co-ordinate a time to both be on-line. If we get in the same area, you can just click on me and add me to your friend's list.

Sadly gil_liant has not upgraded the Mac, nor bought a new computer, nor shows signs of movement in that direction. [sighs]
