Amused and Impressed

Went [as in, 'was dragged off, barely willing'] to see 'Dragonball Evolution' and ... I enjoyed it. Not the best film, but it was fun to watch. I even -liked- Goku - instead of wanting to see the cr@p beat out of him.

What was -impressive- tho was that, as the very end credits rolled - after the cookie** - boojum and gil_liant expressed in about 2 minutes between them - the full plot for the 1st 4 seasons of the original - in a way that made it coherent. [explaining a number of things to me, who have only seen about half the 1st 2 years in the English translation -only- ... and to shadowcatt_x]. THAT was impressive!

DB, the original, had simple plots. It doesn't take too much to tell it. First season: Goku and Bulma meet, seek out the Dragonballs, meet up with Yamucha and Kame-senin, and have to deal with megalomaniac dwarf Emperor Pilaf, whose plan to take the Dragonballs and make himself ruler of the world goes awry when shape-changing pig Oolong shouts out his wish for panties first. Then Goku sees the moon and turns into Oozaru form.

Second season: Goku trains under Kame-senin along with new student, scheming Kuririn, who eventually becomes a more decent sort, and the two of them compete at the World Martial Arts Tournament (Tenkai-Ichi Budoukai).

Third Season: Goku Versus Spectre, er, the Red Ribbon Army.


I'm expecting there's a fair amount more that will be on the DVD.
