Okay, finally recovered from the trip down to SoCalif [left last Thursday, back on Tuesday]. The drive down and back went well and the spanking new car was perfect. ... except for the 'beeps'.

The new Prius - now called 'Comet the wonder car' [since, like the horse from 'Brisco Country Jr' it is possibly smarter than its pilot] - did very well on the 400 miles-each-way drive. However I would be MUCH happier if it would make some other sound other than a high-pitched beep when the touchscreen was used. That beep is loud and the higher tones of it go up into a somewhat painful register, at least to my hearing. But that is my only complaint about the new car [which is much better than the old 8-year Honda in every way, except cargo capacity].

Folks were well, sane and pleasant to be around for the whole trip. Regualr fireworks were wonderful on the 4th and the illegal ones were only moderately annoying. The 4th's feast food was great and Shirley brought home-made ice cream pies! The coffee/mud pie was beyond delicious. Also managed 2 trips to the Mongolian BBQ down there, said restraunt should be the model for all that bear the name. Have tried every MongBarb elsewhere and none has the same flavors of sauces or method of cooking to equal this one. And it's a shame, since if the SJ one was 70% as good, we'd go there frequently.

And what's with the weather? Up here in the South Bay it's been hot [80s, 90s], while 400 miles south [closer to the Equator] it was pleasant [70s the whole time]. Yeah Trey, I know it's because of the relative position of mountain and the Pacific Ocean, but it just doesn't seem fair. ^_^

So all in all it was a good trip. This weekend is a small convention on how to run conventions [Construction] at the SJ Hilton - and then at the end of the month we go back down south again and I hope it'll be as much fun as this week was.

I asked Maestrodog if there was a way to change the beeping noise, he didn't think so. Sorry. I know that there is a way to turn off the beeping when you are backing up, if that's the problem, ask him how to do that. What are you using the touch screen for that makes so many beeps? Just curious. Glad you had a nice trip and that your next one is just as good.

That would be me. ^_^ I like to cycle through the various information screens, zoom in and out on the map (especially when I'm the passenger and she's driving), look ahead to our next destination, pop up various POI's along the route to see what our options are, etc.

I do try to restrain myself, now that she's told me how much it irritates her. On the other hand, she's not fond of any 'beeps' at all, so there's not a lot of leeway. The ideal for her is to put the screen into one mode and leave it there for as long as she's in the car -- which means we may have to bring back all those paper maps we tossed when we got the GPS system.

On the other hand, she's not irrational about it. If I give her a good reason and some warning ("I am about to make beeps") she can cope. She just prefers not to have to.

I'll post your question to Prius Online (www.priusonline.com) and see if there's a way to eliminate the screen-beeps. I've picked up a ton of useful information from there, as well as some not-so-useful stuff...
