Well, had fun at Baycon [because I enjoy being a barnacle and watching the convention wash through the fanzine lounge]. However, I would have -far- preferred going to Baycon without suffering from weird dizzy spells. [grins] The dizziness certainly helped me want to stay in one place, though.

Also played lots of [sid meyer's] Alpha Centauri during the weekend, when the lounge was quiet. It's still a great game.

Now if only the hotel food at the Marriott had been half that good. [shudders] The only decent meal I had there was from room service, Sunday [an omlet] - and that was quite good, with faster service than I experienced being in their restaurant. Yeesh! ...had I only known this on Friday. ^_^

But all in all, even with the move to San Mateo, Baycon was worth suffering dizzy spells for, this year.

I was grateful to you running your oasis of calm in the sea of madness that is the Party Floor. Thank you!

I do hope the dizziness isn't ongoing.

About the food: Lisa and I were glad she'd brought her electric ice chest (think mini-fridge). We bought stuff from Trader Joe's across the street and only ate in the hotel restaurant once. We did get lunch from the BBQ a couple of times, though. It wasn't especially good, but it wasn't awful, either, I thought.

You were smart people then. And from what I've heard, I should've tried the BBQ.

I'm glad you enjoyed the lounge. I certainly enjoyed 99% of the folks who came in and I tried to make the place a clean, well-lighted place for readers and good conversation. ^_^

[and I also hope the dizziness goes away.]

I guess that will do for an excuse on why you didn't show up to even say hi at the FC party

It was a bit odd being [essentially] not-mobile. It kept the lounge open a lot longer than planned, but by the time I left Fanzine Lounge Sunday I was feeling not good at all, so had my honey drive me home, had soup and went to bed. [sighs] ... and pretty much stayed that way through Monday.

Huh... our execs take EVERYONE to the CA Grill at the Marriott. Weird. Baycon was apparently RIGHT NEXT to my office. and I didn't realize it until it was too late, lol.

You go to the CA Grill ... on purpose? [shudders] I have so many gripes about that place ...

Oddly tho, none were about the servers. THEY were sweet and concerned [except for the one waiter who tried to convince me that a 2-toned [pink and brown] hot dog was supposed to look like that and safe to eat. [Ha!]

But the food was awful. Wilted and brown lettuce, hot food served barely warm, exceedingly slow service. But I will say the omlet I ordered from room service that last day was great, exactly as ordered - hot - and served -fast- [gave them a 25% tip, even on top of horrid high cost - just for the fast factor.

But too bad you found out about 'us' too late. [I hear that Westercon will be there the weekend before July 4, if you're interested.]
