I understand that they want to re-brand the franchise so a new series of films can be shoved out, but *gag* - couldn't someone have paid for a -plot- that made sense? Sure, it had some pretty scenes and nice fx - but was stupid on ice - even when measured against other bits of ST inanity.

Really? The plot made perfect sense, especially for Trek.

It was a way to rebrand the series, sure, but there were lots of bits that significantly bothered me. One of the worst was that warp travel appears to be much faster - except when it serves the plot that it doesn't.

I mean, Kirk gets thrown off the Enterprise - goes to the MacGuffin ice planet that is in VISUAL range of [hot] Vulcan. Kirk then proceeds to slog for 20 km, with a side-trip spent with old-Spock; gets to the station and meets MacGuffin-master Scotty [I -love- Pegg], explained stuff - got transported into warp to an unknown destination and get there -before- the Enterprise even manages to get to a rendezvous point. Bwuh? [The Enterprise got 'time stopped'?]

That's almost as bad as villains with awful fashion sense who are driven by revenge ... and who then sulk for 25-ish years before doing anything vaguely revenge-y.

But not quite as stupid as stuffing Scotty into the coolant system - and then emerging as anything more than a boiled entree. [Or that Earth's weather shows no effect from having hot plasma dumped into San Francisco bay.] ... and I noticed so much more.
