OK - so why is it that Republicans in political office can bankrupt the nation, destroy civil rights & threaten the Constitution - all without causing much interest from the general public - but that when Democrats in office fool around THEY stir up a national fervor?

Maybe its because you are in California, but here in the midwest, the media is always all over anything the republican's do in a negative manner, you barely hear a peep about the shenanigans of the democrats.

Probably because it's been quite a long time since the country was under Democratic control, and people are still getting used to the fact that they too are only human and that politics still remains very complicated.

The recent spate of Republicans are only just now learning to not march in lockstep. This means that half the populace stays mum when someone's off key.

Democrats have called each other names since the founding of their party. This means that all the populace yells "mistep" at them.

Because the Republicans in power right now are hypocrites of the worst kind. Getting a blow job from a consenting adult gets you impeached, but lying to start a war that kills 3000 American troops, outing a CIA agent and running torture dens is okay.

And why is it that the Republicans who scream "MORALITY!!!" the loudest are the ones on their third marriage?

... while they cheated on wife #2 with the one they're married to now. Till death do they part? Only when murder is involved.

But that's pretty much what I'm talking about. Ruin the country? People yawn. Have consensual sex? The public flips out!

No, getting a blowjob does not get one impeached. Lying under oath during a trial regarding your possible sexual harassment of someone else however does. It wasn't the blowjob that got Clinton impeached, it was the fact that during Paula Jones's trial against Clinton (where he was on trial for using his position as governor of Arkansas to push Jones to have sex with him) he, while under oath, lied about having sex with Lewinsky. And before you say that what he was doing with Lewinsky had nothing to do with the trial, yes it did, the Jones lawyers were showing that Clinton had a history of such actions, which is very relevant to the case.

Yay for political spin!

Now, everybody go convert your car to burn bio-fuel so you can feel good about destroying the earth.

And to answer your question Melchar... Because the Republicans have hired better PR reps. They're all lieing, cheating, politicians.

Silly flavor of the month green person - there is not enough grain grown in all countries of earth to make enough bio-fuel to power only North America. Bio-fuel is a distraction.

Using cars that get 40+ mpg are what is needed. Changing out all lightbulbs to compact flourescents will help. Building nuclear power plants to replace coal plants would help ....

[forcing politicians to possess knowledge of this would REALLY help.]

The bio-fuel was sarcasm. :)

The entire process of producing ethanol to burning it in your car produces more Co2 than the entire process of producing gasoline and burning it in your car.

And is more expensive per gallon.
And gives you less mpg.

Might as well shoot 10 babies so you can save 1 from getting shot later.

'No using cell-phones while driving' anybody?
Ignoring that cell-phone related accidents were outnumbered by many many other factors... like car radios and manual transmissions.

Trouble is that most people agreed with Clinton. That oral sex isn;t the same as penetrative/procreative sex. Surveys said 50% then - and more than 60% now - don't count a blow-job as 'having sex'.

So it looks like we need a better set of definitions. ^_^

To play the devils advocate a bit more then Melchar...forcing a woman to unwillingly go down on you therefore is not sexual assault, just assault?

Like I say, we need better words for the subject. 'Sex' is different from 'sexual'. [After all, 'sex' is used to differentiate male from female, as well as to define the act.

But a 'sexual' assault is a catch-all that covers -everything- from unwanted touching to full penetration. So of course a forced act would be a 'sexual assault' [but then, so is a boob grab].

Boojum grins and waves, "Hi Melchar! I thought that I would post." He considers his answer carefully. "First, there is the tabloid news syndrome. People LOVE to watch a scandal. From Soap Operas to Entertainment news, people pay attention to sexual misbehaving."

"But more to the point, I think we must be listenning to different reports and watching different things." The bunny continues. "I hear a LOT of outcry against the Republicans in power, from both sides of the political spectrum. I see Iraq War protesters on street corners and gathering in cities. I see republicans decrying the how much was been getting spent."

"What I don't see is the MEDIA hype... which is different than the actual public response." Boojum sighs, rubbing his head. "At any rate, thats my take on things. People are responding loudly to the things that the Reupblican Party has done in office.. and in my opinion it's been in a much more substantive way than when Clinton was having sex in the white house."
